The Elite Teams
Course

“Engaging and gripping. It forced me out of my day-to-day framework.”

The Mission

A team of experts doesn’t always perform like an expert team. There is a common thread that links high performance team culture in business, health care, military, athletics and other high-stakes, high-demand disciplines: it’s teamwork as much as taskwork that leads to elite performance.

The Elite Teams course is a challenging, dynamic, interactive half or full-day experience for teams of any background or discipline. Using our unique Immersive Design process, we actively engage teams in realistic re-creations of team challenges, drawing extensively from practical experience and a deep understanding of high-performance team performance research.

The Players

Drs. Christopher Hicks and Andrew Petrosoniak are emergency physicians and trauma team leaders in Toronto, with a combined 25 years of experience in team leadership. Their work caring for critically ill and injured patients demands effective communication, fast-paced decision making and managing risk and uncertainty in a dynamic team environment. Chris and Andrew have graduate-level training in simulation and debriefing, and have coached executive teams from across the globe on the how to of elite team performance. They draw extensively from their clinical work leading teams in challenging environments, where effective teamwork is the difference between life and death.

Going Elite

What makes a team elite? Over the course of a half or full-day session, we will demonstrate and discuss:

  • Effective crisis communication
  • Red teaming, and other strategies for managing risk and uncertainty
  • Giving and receiving effective feedback
  • Pre-mortems, post-mortems, and after-action reviews
  • The Zero Point Survey

Our techniques include:

  • Live, hands-on, immersive simulation
  • Debriefing and meta-debriefing exercises
  • Pause-and-discuss exercises
  • Role play and peer-to-peer instruction
